G1 Autobot Fic

Scenes from the Early Life of Hot Rod by [livejournal.com profile] eaten_by_bears is a wonderful look at what Hot Rod might have been like as he matured during the course of the war. The author rated it R for a quick sex scene, but the way it is handled, I wouldn't go any higher than PG-13.

Go, read, leave feed back!

Lonely Hearts Club by [livejournal.com profile] darandkerry is a must read for fans of case fic, of Moms knowing their kids best, and for any fans of Rizzoli and Isles. Very well paced story just under 7k words.

Fic Rec: Doctor Who

  • Sep. 16th, 2010 at 4:27 PM
I have a delightful Doctor Who fic to rec to all of you.

It's Four/Romana II, and it is delightfully quirky and points up they are NOT humans.

Let's Do It by [personal profile] charamei is a great read even if you don't know Four or Romana II or even Doctor Who at all.

Insta Rec: SPN/Transformers X-Over

Title: (She Is Not Your) Little Princess
Writer: [personal profile] a_q
Fandom: Supernatural / Transformers (movieverse)
Characters: Impala / Bumblebee / Dean Winchester
Kinks: mechanical/technological (free square) - confined; caged - washing; cleaning - dirty talk
Word count: ~2000
Notes: sentient car-robot romance PG-story, where the kinks appear convoluted - there is talking, walking cars (mechanical), human trapped for his own safety (caged), a sweet gesture of car wash and innuendo of Turtle Wax (washing) topped with strange talk about engines (dirty talk).
No sex, for the lack of interlocking bodies. I know nothing of cars, so if someone with nitpicking tendencies finds something annoying in there, feel free to point & mock.

It's cute. It's sweet. And it's just...perfect for a light read.

Insta-Rec: Calvin and Hobbes

Okay, so I was curious what other Slice-of-life fic was on AO3, and browsed the first page of that tag.

And found this perfect little gem from Calvin and Hobbes: Midnight Shift by Missy.

If you love Calvin and Hobbes, with more nuance than the strip could sometimes allow us, go read it. But take a hankie.

Star Trek Reboot/AOS/XI Rec

Title: What to Expect When You're Expecting
Author: [personal profile] screamlet and [personal profile] waldorph
Fandom: ST (Reboot)
Rating: NC-17
Pairings: George Kirk/Winona Kirk
Word Count: ~8,500

Why you should read this story: It made me about die luaghing for one. But seriously? That's not why. Why you should read it is because the story TOTALLY turns me on my ear as to who Jim gets his wild from, gives me a beautiful George to love, and gives me back an older brother for Jim.

Two recs for Transformers

  • Feb. 20th, 2010 at 11:35 PM
Ignore the Bayverse Optimus, these are not Bay's Transformers...

Goodbye Is Not Forever by [livejournal.com profile] wyntir_knight is an Optimus Prime/Elita-1 fic that is also Orion Pax/Ariel, and heart-wrenchingly sweet.

At the End of It All by [personal profile] stainless is a dark, Decepticons-won-it-all fic, that follows Mirage in slavery to Megatron. Warning: This fic is dark and contains triggery material -- "Warnings: Sex of the sparkish variety. Non-con of the sparkish variety (and I don't mean cutesy dub-con either). Character death. Slavery. Violence, trauma, and its aftermath. This is very dark." (taken from fic)

I do a lot of recs at my journal, [personal profile] origamiflowers, and rather than replicating them here, I figured I'd just link to the posts I've made so far:

(7) Heroes Recs, all Peter/Claire

(7) Harry Potter Recs, all femslash (drawn from the recent [livejournal.com profile] femmefest exchange)

(9) Multifandom Recs, all female-centric (drawn from the recent [livejournal.com profile] femme_fic exchange) - Battlestar Galactica, Bones, Firefly, Stargate Atlantis, Supernatural, Veronica Mars

Fast And Furious Rec

Drive by not_from_stars over on LJ is a really good look at Letty just before Race Wars in The Fast and The Furious. Her thoughts on the entire situation just ring solidly in the fic, and feels very in-character.

The Identical Series by [livejournal.com profile] lanning [Clark/Lex; au; pg to nc-17]
"My replacement. I am not a suitable heir."
"Your father is ... replacing you."
"Has replaced me. Has."

An AU tale of truly epic proportions, The Identical Series breaks away from the canon series shortly after Nicodemus (though references to future episodes are lightly dropped in here and there) to explore how one single action can change a man's entire fate. I, personally, am not all that fond of Clark/Lex and I still adored this series. Cook handles the characterisation skilfully, branching off into new realms without warping them beyond recognition; the banter between Clark and Lex is sheer brilliance, and Eli is one of the most fascinating OCs I've seen in a long time. It's a long series, but after reading the first section you'll be glad of this - it's highly addictive.

Note on ratings: the chapters can vary quite a lot in content. A vast majority of the time it is a PG-13/tentative M for violence, coarse language, and adult themes. Occasionally it crosses into NC-17 territory for explicit sexual material. And I'll stop sounding like a TV ratings ad about now.

My Own Beginning; or, The Doctor Gets A(nother) Reboot by [personal profile] stellar_dust is a phenomenal time paradoxical fic that just...well, it resonates on the same band that made me fall in love with Terminator and Doctor Who to begin with.

First season fics. For those of us mourning the early days when things were so much less complicated. Somehow.

In Reverse by [livejournal.com profile] sodakey [gen; pg-13]
Besides, neither of them were big campers, and if it weren't for Sam's overly-compensating and newly discovered fussing, Dean never even would have suggested it.
Multichapter, long. In the author's own words: "After Faith, a job has the boys looking for missing hikers in Wyoming. While Sam worries it’s connected to what happened to Dean ten years ago, Dean wonders if Sam would be better off back in the world of normal." Stunning work. The characterisation is dead on, the plot intriguing, and the supporting cast of OCs believable and interesting without detracting from the Winchesters. Most importantly, the brotherly bond is played out wonderfully. Sam's frets after coming so close to losing Dean is paired against Dean's insecurities and self-sacrificing wish for Sam to be happy to create a beautiful atmosphere that is right on par with the one in the show. Lengthy, but so worth it.

Receding by [livejournal.com profile] minkmix [gen; pg-13]
They'd lost their minds some said. Left whole and sound in body only to shed blood without explanation back in the lives they knew. A curse.
What seems to be a bust job turns into something much more serious when Dean's memories start to fade. Suddenly Sam is racing to work out exactly what is happening before there's nothing left of his brother to save. Tense and edgy.

Traveling by K. Hanna Korossy [gen; g]
“It’s got no tape deck,” Dean said with the kind of outrage Sam usually reserved for natural disasters and creatures that wanted to eat them. “What kind of a car doesn’t have a tape deck?”
Classic Dean and Sam banter after Phantom Traveler. In order to retrieve the Impala, a highly disgruntled Dean is required to drive a Saturn - well, that or fly again.

But For the Grace by [livejournal.com profile] kroki_refur [gen; pg-13]
Sam’s number rang through to voice-mail, and Dean drew in a deep breath, ready to give the goddamn voice-mail hell. 'Hi, you’ve reached Sam Winchester. I’m probably in class or in the library. Leave a message and I’ll get back to you.'
Dean wakes up and Sam's gone. And so's the car. And all their stuff. And that's not even the worst bit. Narrated from Dean's perspective, and Refur captures his voice perfectly.

I want to recommend one of my favorite series these days: [livejournal.com profile] gekizetsu's 90 proof in which Sam and Dean hang out with Castiel and basically corrupt him with Cheetos, alcohol and more recently, bowling. I know it seems like it's pure hilarity (and actually, it is!) but it's also adorable and I really like how it's written because I can believe in the idea of the three of them just hanging out and being friends and really, I just love that feeling so much.

Anyway, there are three parts so far and they're all amazing.

o1. eternally needing proof [Gen; pg-13]
Dear God: take your damn angel back. I’ve had it with his bullshit. Amen.
The first one in which I fell in love with the three of them, the characterizations are spot on (well, for this context at least).

o2. smite your bitch up [Gen; pg-13]
“I wish I thought this was funny, Dean,” Sam said, shoving Castiel in front of them and toward the most secluded table he could find.
“Our little angel is growing up, Sam,” Dean said.

Oh God! The hilarity has no limits.

o3. air strike [Gen; pg-13]
“There are some things that are uniquely human experiences,” Dean said with a smirk.
This is adorable and it has an AMAAAAZING exchange of quotes.

So, go and read them :)

Torchwood Recs

Lost and Found by [livejournal.com profile] kanecko [Jack/Ianto; Ianto/Lisa; g]
The Rift enjoyed Curley Wurleys and Toffee Crisps, but Snickers bars were pretty safe.
Spoilers across season one; somewhat Ianto-centric. A beautiful examination of the Torchwood team through the odd habits of the Rift and their attempts to manage it.

For When It's Dark by [livejournal.com profile] giddygeek [Jack/Ianto; pg]
"Don't ever die," Jack says. "It'll remind you of this, but you'll be alone."
Jack and Ianto get lost in the bowels of the Hub after an encounter with an alien goes awry. Slow and sweet.

They Grip the Ground by [livejournal.com profile] giddygeek [mild Jack/Ianto; largely gen; g]
"I am a tree," Owen said. "I am not delicious. I am a tree."
The Torchwood team seeks to hunt a Ronocijitikel using their imaginations. Hilarity ensues. Makes me laugh every time.

The Doctor and Mr Jones by [livejournal.com profile] sam_storyteller [Jack/Ianto; crossover with Doctor Who; R]
Ianto had always been fascinated with time.
Multi-chapter; Ianto-centric. A serious accident brings to light startling revelations (vague, yes, but I don't wish to spoil the twists). Absolutely amazing and oddly feasible.

sleep in heavenly peace by [livejournal.com profile] fleshflutter [Gen, Sam/Dean overtones with implied Castiel/Dean; pg]
Six days after the Apocalypse begins, Sam finds the Impala. It's pulled up on the side of the road. The door is unlocked and there's nobody in sight.

Your Skull Inside A Hole by [livejournal.com profile] sirryluv [Sam/Dean; r]
Here in this hole that we fixed, we get further and further and further for what we must do.

stand up tall and hold the world at bay by [livejournal.com profile] oxoniensis [Sam/Dean; pg-13]
He folds himself in, head under Dean's chin like he's smaller than Dean again.

What An Amazing Future There Will Be by [livejournal.com profile] chash [Sam/Dean; pg-13]
Ordinarily, when something really epically bad happens, they hug.

All of this inspired by episode 4.21 When the Levee Breaks and I'm not able to talk about this episode without break into tears. Yes, it was that traumatic but also SO GOOD. And I can't really talk about these fics without spoil them for you. Just go and read them because they're incredibly well written and painfully gorgeous.

good omens and supernatural/good omens

Well, I wanted to start with something easy :P

- Just Save the First Edition for Me by [personal profile] such_heights [Aziraphale/Crowley; pg]
In which Aziraphale accidentally sells a book, and finds himself dangerously near to parting with another.
This is adorable, you know, with the whole book obsession and how Crowley fix it for Aziraphale.

- A Backdoor to Hell by [personal profile] oxoniensis [Gen, SPN/Good Omens, pg-13]
The doorbell chimes angrily. Aziraphale lifts up his head warily, and is a little taken aback to see his new customer.
Spoilers for SPN Season 3. In which Sam goes to Aziraphale looking for help. The solution is quite awesome and it has perfect characterizations.

- 39 flavors by [livejournal.com profile] henchgirl [Gen, SPN/Good Omens, pg-13]
"You're doing it wrong."
In which Sam and Adam meet and talk about being the Antichrist. So far, my favorite SPN/Good Omens crossover, I highly recommend this.

Now people, start posting your own recommendations!
